Description
ALTER EGO DE PALMER 2013 — TASTING NOTES
Grape Variety: 46% Merlot / 46% Cabernet Sauvignon / 8% Petit Verdot
Appearance:
Bright, clear ruby-garnet, moderately deep, now showing a touch of brick at the rim with age.
Nose (Aroma):
Immediately lifted and floral — violet and white blossom over red cherry, raspberry and redcurrant. Spice notes emerge with aeration: cedar, cola, liquorice and a whisper of woodsmoke, with the graphite and tobacco-leaf signature typical of the estate.
Palate:
Juicy and succulent, carried by the bright, lively acidity of the vintage. Light-to-medium bodied with silky, fine-grained tannins and red-fruited transparency rather than density. Floral notes return on the lifted finish — an elegant, perfumed Margaux built on finesse, not weight.
FOOD AND WINE PAIRINGS
- Roast rack of lamb with herbs, or a simple herb-crusted lamb loin — the wine’s delicacy suits lean, tender cuts better than heavily charred meat.
- Roast duck breast or guinea fowl with a cherry or redcurrant jus — echoes the red fruit directly.
- Veal — blanquette, roasted loin, or veal chop with morels.
- Mushroom dishes: wild mushroom risotto, ceps on toast, mushroom tart.
- Roast chicken with truffle or tarragon; charcuterie and pâté en croûte.
- Cheeses: Comté, Saint-Nectaire, Brie de Meaux — avoid anything too strong or smoked, which will bury the perfume.
AGING POTENTIAL
15 years from the vintage — drinking well now through roughly 2028.
— serve at 16–17°C with a short 30 minutes decant, no more —
